The sad thing is that in a year or two no one will want to discuss it anymore. Other than venting frustrations at the movie this will basically be it. No one will recommend this movie to anyone. Diehard Sopranos fans will recommend against watching it even. And this movie will just fade into obscurity. How often do people talk about The Irishman compared to Goodfellas or Casino? How often do people recommend Boardwalk Empire even?
A lot of people I know recommended watching Breaking Bad. A few of them said to watch Better Call Saul. No one at all said to watch El Camino and some had not even heard of it. I would be shocked if this movie was considered anything more than a joke in even a few months. Sad to see even David Chase is a mediocre loser sellout just like everyone else in Hollywood.
I think boardwalk empire was a brilliant show, almost. Had brilliancy in moments at least.

I think it would be interesting to see the script from its original incarnation to what we eventually got in the finished product. I wanna know what member berries shit was a part of Chases original vision and what wasn't. I'd love to know how much it changed in the last two years especially. Besides the toned down use of slurs I think the movie actually handled the racial components quite well. But this movie was in purgatory before the pandemic. And between the riots, the adoption of the original series by zoomers, and an already risk averse Hollywood taking such a huge financial hit, I think it's safe to speculate that it went through some editing. I just wanna know to what degree.
I’d wager money it wasn’t getting funded if xyz wasn’t done. I’m curious as well because I need to know if David chase just deserves to be hated or if he should be raped by a pack of niggers.

The original script was known in Hollywood for a while. It was completely devoid of Sopranos references. It was just a movie about the Newark riots and how the government teamed up with nigger political groups to basically overrun white neighborhoods. Newark was actually the first majority black city in America. So of course it turned into shit immediately with massive riots. Niggers became the majority and crime literally exploded in the span of a few years. Naturally the (((media))) blamed it on the white race.

The original script was basically about white flight and the post WWII generation abandoning cities and moving into the countryside due to the improvements of the highway and thruway systems and easier purchasing of automobiles. It was going to show how after WWII you had blacks moving into the cities and whites building up the suburbs and how the rapid demographic shift created race riots. David Chase never got it off the ground and eventually the script changed more and more into a Sopranos prequel.

Bullshit. The whites were always the bad guys unless they hated other whites. The Aryans were portrayed as actual Nazis which is nonsense.

Still gotta admit Adebisi was based as fuck. Alvarez was still my favorite character despite that being everyone else’s, too.
My favorite Character was O’Reilly. He’s cunning as fuck.

I've been watching a bunch of the clips of the show recently and I wouldn't call it cunning, more like purposely writing characters retarded to be manipulated into anything.

"So and so said this about you."

"Thanks O'Reilly, I'll be sure to take care of him."

There's several scenes with this exchange.

OZ was a soap opera for young guys. Low production values, too many subplots going on, not especially well-written and always trying to one-up the previous season. I loved it at the time, but looking back I see it was hot garbage.

I will add that the movie could have been much better if they started with Tony being in high school, washing out and being recruited into the mafia life. A preview of how the gang came together, maybe even a look into the 80s.

All Chase did was introduce a bunch of characters no one cared about or had new actors give horrible portrayals. It’s like they thought they couldn’t rely on Gandolfini’s kid to carry the movie but I thought he did a pretty good job. The voice over of Chris is cringe worthy, totally unnecessary and as amateur as it gets.

I could of tolerated his bad impression of his dad if there was an actual film around him instead of The Many BLACKED of Newark.

Haven’t watched it yet but this sounds like Godfather 3 type bad. From what I’ve read it sounds like David Chase had that Newark script for years but couldn’t get a studio to produce it and wasn’t going to be stupid and spend his own money so he had to make it in the Sopranos universe. I also saw Chase signed a 5 year first look deal today which some here had predicted.

Rolling Stone says it’s great which automatically means it’s god awful. “Historical epic”? It’s set in fucking New Jersey! I bet they don’t even realize the quote they’re using is from The Godfather and not Sopranos. I strongly believe you can’t even make a true “good old fashion gangster movie” anymore. Everyone is too worried about pushing the envelope, possibly offending groups, and above all are too afraid to portray how people actually talk, think, and behave. Also any historical portray of any era before the 90s is completed changed to fit diversity quotas.
