How many of you actually think you’ll retire?

$640k when I graduated - I’ve got it down to almost $600k now. But I am approximately Patso’s age, so I just can’t see paying off the debt and then somehow saving up for retirement. I think I’ll have the debt gone in the next 10-15 years, and then just work and save what I can until I can no longer do it.

There’s no way I’m letting my kid have any debt, so I plan on paying for his college or whatever.

I do want to clarify I am not doing a “poor me” thing, I have a great cash flow and mostly love my life. I’m just pointing out that making what is to me an astronomical amount of money is still not enough for me to think I’m gonna retire.

I don’t even own a house, but don’t let Boomia hear that.

Oh, little boy millennial WHINING because he doesn’t know what the meaning of HARD WORK is. You want EVERYONE ELSE to pick up the “tab” for your degree because you don’t appreciate the VALUE of “going it alone” like a real MAN! When I was your age I worked 40 HOURS A WEEK and I STILL had time to BEAT MY KIDS! I spent MY money on cruises and motorbikes because I don’t owe my WORK SHY CHILDREN one single cent!

Also whoever was talking about student loan forgiveness, I am with you. I don’t think we should forgive it.

But I do think some of the interest rates are pretty (((usurious))) and should be capped or regulated. When I started college in the 2000s my loans were like 2-4%. When I got into my career a few years ago my loans were 8% and up, which is bordering credit card territory. I’ll be fine but I do think that fucks over a lot of ordinary people.

I’m not pulling in anything close to what you are but I’m in a similar situation with smaller numbers. At this point I just don’t give a fuck anymore. It’s all a ticking time bomb till none of this matters and I don’t have to worry about my savings or debts or interest rates or crypto prices. I’ll have to worry about beating a latin man to death for the remaining tin of beans in an old persons pantry.

Its gonna be the Smith and Wesson retirement plan for me.

A friend of mine at work is nearing retirement and his plan is to liquidate everything, pull in a few hundred grand, blow it all in vegas on drugs and whores and then blow his head off. He isn’t joking either, he’s deadly serious and I none jokingly respect him a lot for it.

He basically said he wants to emulate Stephen paddock without the mass murder

I always thought a story like that would make a good movie.

1. Successful yet depressed guy wants to kill himself.

2. Decides to blow $500,000 on gambling, whores, and cocaine in Vegas... then kill himself.

3. Makes $10 million in a few months. Gives his money away to down-on-luck whores he befriended along the way.

4. Feels better about himself.

5. Devotes life to charity.

The U.S. will be a full-blown Brazil tier shithole by the time I'm 70 so I'm less worried about having enough money for retirement and more worried about having enough money to segregate myself from our new shitskin overlords for as long as possible. The Pats of the world will spend their golden years standing in soup lines with DiAndre and RigoRoberto.

One of my first jobs post degree in my field was working on the online infrastructure for an online betting company. I could track everyone’s results and would out of curiosity. Every single high stakes habitual player was down BAD overall. I can’t recall a single positive returns. Obviously you’d get lots of people who bet small and won but 100% of people betting big or often lost.

One guy won 700k from 500 on some wild accumulated sports bet, he was still basically break even after it because he’d bet 500 constantly, I’m almost certain he walks around telling everyone that story like he’s some kind of gambling genius.

No idea what my point was but here we are.

Oh yeah I remember my point. We actually talked about that scenario, “what if you actually made millions and didn’t lose it all?”

He was hand to god scared at the thought and said something like that would happen because he’s so unlucky. My man straight up hates life. He also is convinced he’s not going to be able to enjoy retirement if he tried because he’s 6”9 and says “how many old people do you see my height? None! They don’t live long so why should I care about my pension?”

Great fella

The 2 or 3 gamblers I knew in my early 20s who were into 'methods' and card counting and tried to be pros, are all "Born-Again Christians" now. I don't even keep up with them I just know they must have hit rock bottom. Anyone who is obsessed with going to Vegas, poker etc. I consider a 'rube'/sucker.

(real) Rich folks gamble to actually lose money and for the story..."I lost so much, im an animal teehee, why cant I behave?" but ofcourse they still have their billions. Imagine losing your savings, friends, family, reputation to it as a regular guy, hah pathetic.

I do gamble a bit, but I treat it as money I’d otherwise spend on booze or PlayStations or whatever. Just another form of entertainment, I know I’m giving up money for the thrill of that one time actually winning.

I put all of my savings into Bitcoin to hedge against inflation. It’s lost 70% of its value.

By the time I'm retirement age the last few stragglers in my family will all be dead. My friends will have become acquaintances with families of their own, and I'll be able to kill myself without causing any major disruptions to other peoples' lives. So if I'm sick of it by then I can just tap out to be perfectly honest witcha. Ya got your gun, you got your tepid funeral turnout, boom, dude, you're in an urn.

$640k when I graduated - I’ve got it down to almost $600k now. Wtf school did you go to for $640k?? I know doctors who got out with 1/3 that much student debt. Jesus dude.

But still, you could put $100k aside a year and still have $300k and get rid of that pretty quick if you wanted to.
