It's only Chapter 2. Most people who read LOTR would get at least this far as the Hobbiton chapters are by far the best written and most entertaining in the whole book. It's also made pretty clear in the movies too.

Again, Pat doesn't know what he's talking about. The Ring had Bilbo the moment he laid eyes on it. He wouldn't even have lived as long as he did without it.


The Ring is very much like addiction, you're fine when you have plenty of drugs at hand, but the moment you might have to go without or can't find any more, you start to freak out. Ah Dog, man that guy was my father as far as I’m concerned. My biological father fell asleep in my birthday cake on my second bday cuz he was fucked up off horse. Later that day he got arrested for going through peoples garbage. The bail was 25 dollars but my mom wouldn’t bail him out and got a restraining order. Didn’t see him again until I was 5 then he started taking me to this trap house with his gf and locking me in the worlds smallest room while he did smack.

Compared to that my step father was a saint. Think about him all the time. A group of youths did beat the shit out of my real dad outside of a bar in broward county. My real father was at my house when I came home from school one day. Which was weird because I didn’t really know him. This was before he started taking me to the trap house.
