This is largely why the USMNT is condenmed to mediocrity. Every NBA team knew who LeBron James was when he was eleven years old. Similar systems exist in Europe for soccer players. The MLS clubs can't afford that kind of system because the money is so much less here. (And our Major League Soccer is, in itself, a feeder system to identify talent that can play at the European club level, so why build another one?)
