I imagine he thinks because he was behind nine proxies and that Torswats is caught and guilty of so much more that any chance his initial purchases are caught or brought into this is low. He's a genius, you see. Surely the MPD who didn't know what reddit was don't know how to subpoena a VPN.

This. Pat paid for the first ~30 or so then "refused" (according to TS) to pay for the last 5 or so, then started getting swatted at random. As for why he would bring a case like this knowing that it would bring increased scrutiny, there is a small possibility that the person who paid his judgement(s) is a legitimate rich person who saw him on MSDNC or one of the podcasts. After shelling out $50k, perhaps this person realized that Patrick has been doing this to himself, and "offered" to fund a lawsuit against the MPD knowing that it could very well result in him getting popped for self-swatting.
