I've tried getting into Stern several times by listening to classic clips but I just don't find it that funny. Nowhere near OnA.

- Mr. Tomlinson's feud started after members of the now-defunct Reddit site r/opieandanthony got his Twitter account suspended, causing him to threaten some bored trolls who never heard of him with a libel lawsuit. The trolls responded predictably.
- Mr. Tomlinson has been instructed many times by friends, family, police, and attorneys to stop engaging with his trolls, and that continuing to provoke them will cause him to be trolled even more. Mr. Tomlinson wilfully ignores this advice.
- He would eventually file a defamation suit against 60 anonymous people which was dismissed with Mr. Tomlinson being ordered to pay $34,762.25 for opposing parties' attorney fees.
- He ended up paying $83,736.99 due to his unsuccessful attempts to dodge the court-ordered judgement, for which he faced jail time and contempt charges.
- He also filed 2 frivolous restraining orders against people who had engaged in First Amendment-protected behavior (one for texting him and another for attending his contempt of court hearing), both of which were dismissed.
- Early on in the lawsuit, Mr. Tomlinson vandalized his own motorcycle and submitted a false police report blaming the people he was suing.
- He accidentally sent surveillance video of the alleged vandal to a troll. The individual in the video is very obviously Patrick S. Tomlinson.
- Mr. Tomlinson has never submitted this video footage during any of his many media tours, and desperately tries to scrub it from the internet.
- Mr. Tomlinson claims that the surveillance video was initiated by his "motion-activated" camera, which only collects "30 seconds at a time", despite the video being 32 seconds long and beginning several seconds before the "vandal" enters into the frame.
- On 13 April 2023, the individual responsible for calling the fake emergences (SWATs) to Mr. Tomlinson's house, a SWAT-for-hire dealer named "Torswats", revealed that Mr. Tomlinson ordered the SWATs to his own house because he wanted to get in the news and sue the MPD for money.
- Torswats would repeat these allegations in private chats which were not intended for public view.
- Mr. Tomlinson has gone on multiple news tours since the SWATtings started in order to promote his victimhood brand, utilizing the services of Lenora Claire.
- He also recently sued the MPD for money.

It's impossible to avoid contending with Howard when you participate in the medium he became the leading man of. Anyone trying to do a talk show for young males at that time would have sounded the same.
I think you can limit most of the "Howard imitator" label to O&A's earliest work. They literally stole the bit from his movie where the girl 'rides' her radio speaker and cums.
I love both shows equally. Stern was a brilliant satirist in the 90s when he peaked. I think a lot of Stern's wackpack was overrated and unfunny, I enjoy Lady Di, Marion, Bobo, etc. far more than Blue Iris, Bigfoot, or any of the non Hank or Beetlejuice wack packers. You didn't HAVE to mine these people for gold. They vomited it all over you.
I just liked the format where they spitball ideas for weird shit like disrupting other peoples shows, and then you get to watch it play out for real. Howard did this with a lot of his projects as well.
The fact is, Howard feared O&A because he worked against them in a way he never did with anyone else. He felt threatened because he knew they were Long Island scumbags like him and he finally met his match. So he prolonged the confrontation until nobody cared anymore, O&As fanbase was basically bled dry by 2003.
Were you even there for WNEW? The first few months/year of O&A on XM was god fucking awful. Not only were they rusty but they retained all their FM hackiness without much of the energy or appeal because they knew nobody was listening. WNEW >Sirius > XM > WAAF.
I grew up listening live on WNEW, I wasn't even a teenager until they hit XM and even I knew the show was better on WNEW. They were definitely hacky back then too, but making strippers and porn whores cry is funnier than PLAYING VIRAL VIDEOS AND SONG PARODIES BECAUSE THEY'RE ON THE INTERNET. XM was the low point.

The problem with recommending Stern's stuff is that since he has to maintain a PC image now all the funny bits he did keeps getting taken down. For example I'd link you the Artie vs Crystal Clear episode but I can't find the hour long version on Youtube.
Gilbert sitting in for the news was incredible, especially when Jackie and Billy West we’re there. He would just go wild derail everything to the point of staff members laughing so hard they cried. When Stern first went to Sirius he actually had to dump out on Gilbert because he was so crazy and offensive. This was when Stern’s whole sales pitch for Sirius was “Stern as you’ve never heard him, Wild and Uncensored!” and little Gilbert was too much.
They keep getting removed but any Gilbert sits in for the news during the 90s is some of the best radio you’ll ever hear. I still crack up when Gilbert would start his Amos and Andy black impression.

Howard was literally the only one making fun of Princess Di at the time she died. I forgot all about that, but it was him and like one anon on the Internet back then, and that was it.
Knowing what I know today, can you believe the story, "She was being chased by papparazzi" was believed hook, line, and sinker by the public? Yes, because celebrities and royalty just aren't used to the press at all. She just didn't want her picture taken. There's no way she could have been speeding away for her life, right?
What’s even more amazing is you had Gilbert saying the craziest shit, like nigger, calling himself a kike, Jew jokes, black voices, and even things like “Hey Aladdin, there’s a faggot!” and was still hired to do voices for childrens cartoon shows. Same with Billy doing Marge Schot yelling nigger and doing Doug and Ren & Stimpy.
Stern’s “wildest” stuff happened when he was on FM, on Sirius he could say fuck it wasn’t connected to anything outrageous. Especially that Stern eventually had to stop having Gilbert on because he couldn’t control him from saying offensive things. There’s a couple good Artie / Gilbert news on Sirius where you can tell Stern was getting pissed because they would just go nuts, I remember one where Stern asked Gilbert what he thought about Obama and he replied “You mean the nigger?”

Some of the biggest laughs I had listening were from Fred using Jackie’s laugh drops for inappropriate moments. Even better when people would call in upset and offended at Jackie laughing at news stories of people dying.
I remember Robin doing a news story about a young boy being sexually assaulted by a group of older boys and they had shoved a broom stick up his ass and Fred played a drop of a guy saying “ohhh boy, does that feel good!”
