This just isn’t true. If that were the case, a complete square like Opie would still be friends with these comics and none of them like him. Cumia still associates with some of them. Most of them, even the regulars, were just doing it to sell tickets.

If any show deserves credit for boosting comics' careers, it's Conan. That's where Louis and Burr went viral and took off: Burr for his rant about Steve Jobs; Louis for his "Everything is Great and No One is Happy" spiel when the economy crashed. That one was popular because both conservatives and liberals thought he was echoing them (turns out he just meant Whites deserve to eat shit for awhile, but it was still funny).
