People talk about Lou Reed like he was some big rock legend, but aside from the first few Velvet Underground records (which are overrated), his stuff is pretty much all garbage. Pretentious, boring, faggy, NY "art" rock. Like if Billy Joel, Television, and Patti Smith had a retarded child born with almost no musical ability. IMO, people who pretend they like him are lying to seem cooler than they are. He seemed like a real dick, too.

Satellite of Love song is good but when he died Ant was trashing his fans for those reasons “but uhhh Ronny seems like he actually likes him.”

I’m not doubting the TECHNICAL talent of any of the Metallica guys. Riffing like that or double kicks that Lars does or the tappy solos Kirk does takes physical talent. But they have no writing talent. All of those riffs are so extremely basic it’s insane. The only thing that gives them their feel is the rhythmic variations between each one.

I was watching an interview with the guy from Hellwitch, cool old school death/thrash band and he was ripping on Excel for being lame. They were one of many underrated bands from that era that didn't have a high ceiling for commercial success.

Metal Machine Music has merits if you are able to completely ignore what constitutes as quality songwriting, composition, creativity etc. etc. I would rather hear that album and artist such as Whitehouse, Masonna and Merzbow than Imagine Dragons. Sometimes noise just works. It's less obnoxious than chatty coworkers, ambient city sounds and a yapping woman.

My music is very Metallica ish. I’m not trained in any theory besides what I think sounds good. But the music I like and musicians I praise ARE talented in theory, and I like them so much because they do shit I could never do.
