Can anyone remember that heinously bad Metallica album with Lou Reed?

Metallica's first three records (and parts of the fourth) were thrash classics that towered over almost everything their peers were doing at the time. Then James Hetfield decided to become a cowboy, and just like that, it was all over. Black was a decent enough "hard rock" record, but everything since has been shit. It's kind of hilarious how they've tried to "return to their thrashy roots", which was exactly what Jason Newsted wanted to do, but was ridiculed for. Now they do 10 minute songs and 77 minute albums no one likes. Way to self-edit, stupids.

I wont listen to anything outside of their first 5 and maybe The Outlaw Torn off of Load. The rest of their catalogue is trash. Pretty sad, they shouldnt have kicked Jason out. That nog does not suit the band, though I loved him in Infectious Grooves.

But if you were born in 2005 with homosexual tendencies and listened to 3 of their albums once while high with your angsty friends then you could come on a shock jock forum and claim they were never good.

Yeah they're technically not metal, it's rock 'n roll but as heavy and fast as possible. One review of them I did like called them "50% rock, 50% punk and 50% metal, and yes that does equal 150% because that's how overwhelming they are" and that's what they were like. I saw them in 2011, best show ever.
I first saw them at the trocadero in Philly in 2005 - I couldn’t hear out of my left ear for three days. Great show!

I still remember Lemmy doing something funny about the whole “encore” process of a show. He told it was the last song, then said “I know what you’re thinking, hey - they didn’t play that song, but we will, just pretend we’re done for the night and don’t worry, we’ll play those songs shortly”

Motörhead was one of the loudest bands I've ever seen. I personally preferred the classic lineup, with Eddie and Philthy, but that lineup was finished before I was of concert-going age. That Mikkey Dee guy is one hell of a drummer, though, just a total barbarian.

People talk about Lou Reed like he was some big rock legend, but aside from the first few Velvet Underground records (which are overrated), his stuff is pretty much all garbage. Pretentious, boring, faggy, NY "art" rock. Like if Billy Joel, Television, and Patti Smith had a retarded child born with almost no musical ability. IMO, people who pretend they like him are lying to seem cooler than they are. He seemed like a real dick, too.

They were a monstrous live band too. They used to play everything faster than fast, no crowd participation sing-alongs, no fucking ballads. Just sheer thrash brutality. The way I see it, the last "real" Metallica gig was Woodstock 1994. After that, it all took a turn for the gayer. Black was kind of jarring, but Load was the death blow. I remember when Howard Stern debuted "Until It Sleeps" on his show in 1996, I was just stunned at how fantastically queer it was.

Everything they've done from Black onward is varying degrees of "wouldn't suck if I didn't know who made it". Lulu aside, Death Magnetic is the worst because they're trying to sound like themselves and it sucks.
The songs are bad, they're way too long, and the mix is just terrible. I think someone tried to remix it, and it was marginally better, but blah. IMO, of all the post-Black albums, Hardwired is maybe the least shitty, but it's still not good. The first sixty seconds or so of St Anger is the best thing they've done post-Black. After that though, yikes.

Metal is a retarded genre. This is literally like a girl asking you “Name a few singers more important for pop than Madonna”. She sucks…but shes also influential. That coexists
You're still sweet boy Sue. Why've you been so stinky lately? As retarded as a genre as Metal has become, it was half-decent once upon a time. You just had to be there. (I know, I know)

You mean the only good Metallica album?

Its artsy fartsy bullshit but old ass Lou Reed droning and reading poetry over stock buttrock riffs is such a confusing choice it borders on being “experimental”

I’d rather listen to that than literally any Metallica album.

“WE’RE OFF TO NEVER NEVERLAND!”

YEAH, ARE YA????

Potentially an ever gayer Kiss, if thats possible.
Nigga you’re gayer than Kiss.
