I've got neighborhood quails and jays coming to my lawn and patio to chow down on the shelled peanuts I offer them. It's been pretty cool studying their beauty and learning their vocalizations (warning calls, content cooing, etc.) from a few feet away. Dry roasted, unsalted shelled peanuts worked like a charm. Thanks for the tips, uncle @aRTie02150 !
It's a great feeling when you can tell they're kind of comfortable being near you.

Once they know a good source of peanuts they'll never want to leave. It's the perfect food them.

Fruit is good too, since quails are smaller they'd probably be better off with raspberries or blackberries or something similar that can be picked apart easily.

Luckily I do have raspberries in the fridge already! I'll try it. You would be impressed with these quail; they swallow the halved pieces no problem (right down the hatch). They're surprisingly aggressive at breaking apart the whole ones.

At first I was feeding peanuts to the winter chickadees but the quail took over once the former left for the season. It's pretty great having birds year-round.

Chickadees rule. I used to get the little fuckers to land on my head when I was a kid.
