I consider Benoit the unfortunate, yet logical end to that whole classic age of pro wrestling. There's a guy whose psychotic obsession with the craft and lifestyle of the sport totally destroyed himself and those around him. But yes it is fascinating. Shoot interviews are a gold mine of stories.Wrestling was only fun when it was all performed by drug addled monsters who were around when kayfabe was still a thing. The weirdness of it all and the carny legacy were what made it so fascinating. I haven't watched wrestling in fucking years but I do enjoy reading books about the old days. For like a century wrestling was full of genuine lunatics living like outlaws on the road. The whole "it's predetermined but not fake!" screeching sounds a lot less lame when its referring to two skilled maniacs winging it for 40 minutes and trying not to kill eachother. It's pretty much just two faggots doing some choreography now.
Oh and the "THIS IS AWESOME!" chants make me fucking sick to my stomach.
