It should be noted that Russia was closer to NATO membership in 2005 than Ukraine has ever been, and instead focused on building a brokedick empire and fell into building closer relations with our adversaries. If you're wondering what the average American gains from opposing Russia, I'd ask what they gain from wholesale tolerance of Russian aggression? How does strengthening OPEC's leverage benefit them?

As for this administration's recent actions, I understanding pushing everyone towards the negotiating table. I don't understand taking things (NATO membership, weapons sales) off the table publicly before those negotiations begin. Why would anyone do that, let alone someone who sells negotiation as their biggest strength?
