I think countries like Russia, China, Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran (the Middle East generally) have no interest in being a client state to the US. As a result, the state department and pentagon try to find reasons to fuck with them and try and bring them in line. News stations fall in line because international conflict is good for ratings. It absolutely should from a glownigger perspective. The longer the war drags on, the more it costs Russia. The only thing it costs the US is money and materiel, which they can reason to be an insignificant investment compared to the possible benefits a weakened Russia brings. The war in Ukraine already contributed in a major way to the end of Assad in Syria. It forced Europe to drop Russian gas and arm up more quickly, and they're buying American to make up the difference. Why not keep it going and see what else happens?

The Cold War never ended. It wasn’t supposed to. Clinton/Bush41 made it very clear that despite Gorbashev‘s overtures Russia was never going to enter into the First World and retreat to the Third World where it was supposed to remain.
