How are we going to force them to do anything then? The US public won’t accept troops sent to Ukraine and we’re already doing sanctions/weapons shipments. The only option left is the game over button which everyone is too scared to press

It should be noted that Russia was closer to NATO membership in 2005 than Ukraine has ever been, and instead focused on building a brokedick empire and fell into building closer relations with our adversaries. Venezuela, the Coup Belt, the Shia Crescent, and those bullshit breakaway republics they carved out of Eastern European countries that border them are all symbols of this.
If you're wondering what the average American gains from opposing Russia, I'd ask what they gain from wholesale tolerance of Russian aggression? How does strengthening OPEC's leverage benefit them?
As for this administration's recent actions, I understand pushing everyone towards the negotiating table. I don't understand taking things (NATO membership, weapons sales) off the table publicly before those negotiations begin. Why would anyone do that, let alone someone who sells negotiation as their biggest strength?

Another consideration is that Putin is old as fuck and there's no clear line of succession. It'd be bad fucking news if he dies and a power vacuum/struggle occurs and Russia is still stuck up to the shoulder in a major conflict. The longer the war goes on, the more realistic that scenario becomes and can motivate Russia to accept a settlement.

I hate them for being vicious animals. Their murder rate is very high. Domestic violence is extremely common. They even decriminalized it within marriage.
They have a long history of weaponizing rape. They do it systematically in Ukraine since 2022. I also hate them for abducting Ukrainian children by the thousands. Fuck Russia. They are the worst scumbags of the three dominant superpowers.
