At what point did Alien become Ridley Scotts' thing? The first 3 moves in the franchise had 3 different directors (well 4) and then Alien Vs Predator movies, which we don't have to talk about.

When did Ridley get to decide what's cannon and what's not? Like he's Lucas and this is his Star Wars.
Ridley is also on record saying that he doesn't even like the Xenomorph which is hilarious. Dan O'Bannon and H.R. Giger didn't really leave the alien to anyone apparently. So Fox and Disney got it with Ridley getting to produce the newest films.

I expect nothing from it. What could they possibly do that hasn't already been said or done before with the xenomorph? The idea of a sequel/prequel is, once again, entirely stupid fan-service bullshit. The only good thing they've added to the lore (gay) is the David character.

Maybe I'm just a contrarian fag but I really only like the first movie. Aliens always comes off as super corny when I watch it now.
You're not alone. If they had stopped at 1, it would still be a classic. It's fucking timeless.

Aliens was just a mid-tier 80's war flick - in space. Now with more Xenomorphs. And the giant Queen, which looks like a modern-day Disney animatronic. I loathe that movie.

I kinda liked Prometheus, but I also would have been totally fine if it never had been made. I forget Covenant except that Danny McBride was in it, and it tied into Prometheus...

They aren’t finishing the David arc? That was the only interesting thing about this franchise now. Don’t care about the alien lol.

nah i completely agree, i like that alien is just mundane trucker shit in space disrupted by an alien.

i don't think aliens is horrible, but the space marine shit and over the top characters like the mexican dyke are garbage

And lest we forget Alien 3, where Ripley shaves her head and hangs out with a bunch of prisoners. I forget what else happens besides the bad CGI xenomorph.
Least we forget that it’s pretty much two movies Scotch-taped together. Didn’t they change a big chunk of the production staff halfway through? What a mess.

I did like the dog alien, as it expanded the lore a bit, where the Xenonorph lifecycle was really “infect host, gestate, create some hybrid monster”. I.e., it’s not so much a species as it is a strain of something. A neat idea got overshadowed by a shitty movie.

Or maybe I need to rewatch it. It’s been a long while.

It's really more like three or four movies just smashed together and filmed all over the place.

Speaking of filming two different movies. In the 'Assembly Cut' version of Alien 3 it's not even a dog that it infects but an Ox. So they filmed a completely different alien design when the other director got involved. So if you watch the other version of the movie they basically redid every scene involving the alien including the face-hugger infecting an ox in the slaughterhouse instead of a dog in the air vent.

She paid $1million or something ridiculous to shave her head.

The elderly man makeup in Prometheus was so fucking stupid. I know this is a shocking thing to tell a director with hundreds of millions to spend, but he could've just got two actors for the different ages for a better effect and less effort.

this had no right ever being a franchise. alien was a perfectly self-contained movie and did everything you possibly could with that premise. I’ll even give aliens a pass for going in a completely different direction, despite it being an overrated, glorified b-movie

I really liked Prometheus, Covenant was kinda shit, Alien is a classic I got to see the director’s cut in theatre as a kid, Aliens is not as good but I still like it. Never bothered with any of the others since I assumed they were shit.
