I don't think it's a mistake or coincidence he switched completely out of the science fiction genre. Fairly certain he's managed to get blackballed and burned all his bridges. Costing your friends in SFWA tens of thousands of dollars and their reputation for taking your side while you gloat about uaing their money online tends to sour folks. They left him holding the bag and stopped taking his calls.

He stayed away from conventions mostly except one final one last year where he was overhead by multiple people trying to garner sympathy and support as be faced down jail for contempt. Seemingly he didn't get the reception he expected, and instead was roundly mocked by authors online. He used to appear regularly sharing table space with Cat Rambo.

If he was James Patterson he might have been able to recover, but he's a couple hundred selling nobody piece of shit whose primary source of income is watching people sleep in his house on security camera. He thinks he has the stroke to ruin Leslie Varney? He's one step above Paul Weimer's Klingon gay porn, which probably had more readers than Starship Repo.
