Rick's patio furniture has been liberated

There has to be some zoomer discord fucking with him. This is straight out of the play book of some of these types of groups. Calling scrappers, free Ads on Craigslist/Facebook etc.
Kiwifarms adjacent at best. A troll that goes by "Marty" does this to a specific loser. Scrappers, grinder fags, Craigslist ads, etc. Highly unethical shit but incredibly hilarious when it pans out.

You aren't in possession of stolen property until you knowingly posses it. Until then you lack the mens rea to have broken the law. The person who took the chairs acted in good faith if they haven't seen his ad they've done nothing wrong. So if they see it and see his attitude I'd deny seeing it and go about my business since he's an asshole the burden of proof lies on him, not the guy who has the chairs. Pat is fucked in this case. He needs good will here not tough guy bull shit, but he can't muster any,
There must be a flaw in your theory. If I see a bicycle I like someone can post a Craig’s list ad and I can use that as my defense? What if someone posted a “rape my girlfriend” ad? This seems to be a wet dream of a loophole for psychopaths.

In pats case his garbage is worthless anyway, I’ve seen nicer furniture on the curb for the garbage truck. Nobody will face consequences for that reason.

He'd be better off calling the scrap dealers in his area and asking if they remember seeing it. I worked at a scrap place for a while and there's a chance it sat there for a day or two before somebody threw it into a bin. It was in decent enough condition that one of the workers or the boss might have set it aside to try to resell it as is or whatever.
Quick, make a Craigslist ad of a guy trying to resell Rick's furniture

So if I want to steal my neighbor’s lawn mower I can just post an ad for a free lawnmower on Craig’s list first and they can’t arrest me for possession of stolen property? Why haven’t more thieves thought of this. I’m thinking of picking up some free gold from my local pawn shop.
I'll repost what I said and bold the part that you apparently didn't read:

Also when he said "you have unknowingly committed a crime" as a scare tactic. They haven't committed a crime. They responded to a Craigslist ad. The person putting up the ad committed a crime, but the person picking the furniture up didn't do anything wrong.

Who is this "someone" posting the Craigslist ad for the bicycle? You? A friend that you told to post the ad? If so, that's the crime. Also for the "rape my girlfriend" ad the crime is rape. You're raping someone. That's the crime.

The people who took Pat's patio furniture didn't commit a crime. It's not even "possession of stolen property" because it wasn't stolen. They saw a Craigslist ad and responded to it. If that's a crime then no one would use Craigslist for fear that the cops could bust down their door and arrest them if the ad turned out to be fake.

Exactly, if a guy is running with sirens blaring and sweating and hands you a Rolex, you may realize it is stolen and thus be culpable in the eyes of the law. In this case the guy had no reason to suspect any wrong doing. The items aren't excessively valuable nor unique. It's akin to akin to accusing a person of taking an item from the roadside of theft.
