I can't stand capeshit, but Superman, and his ideals? That I have a soft spot for.

How can you hate someone who just wants to help and better the world, at the expense of his personal time, energy, his life in general? Who does things not just because he can, but because he should? Whose adopted parents loved him and instilled those values, and the tolerance of even people he may not agree with or that might even fear him?

I still remember the first time I saw the original Superman movie. There is a lot of cheesiness in it, and yet Chris Reeve pulled it off. Some Yank says to me "I'm about Truth, Justice, and The American Way"? Any other actor, I'd turn the fucking movie off, but he said it with such sincerity, including the follow up: "I never lie."

The world would be a lot better off if there were more people like Superman.

So of course an angry, fat wank like Patrick would despise any selfless person like that.
