It was a huge dud, and a major embarrassment considering how hard he pimped it. He ruined the radio show for the better part of a year, and that piece of shit was dead and buried by the second weekend. I saw it on Sunday, two days after it opened, in the heart of Stern country, and there were six people in that theater. I do remember when he came back after his post-premier break, and he was oddly subdued and quiet about it. That was one of the most heavily anticipated Stern shows ever, and it was a dud too.

If the marketing budget included the Super Bowl commercial, the merchandise and swag which was tossed into a landfill, and compensation to CBS for extra days off, then you might be looking at a loss of $16million in 1997 when Private Parts was finally no longer being shown in theaters.

Stern fans have done the math on this already. It's why Howard never brings up the money aspect of his movie on air ever. So unless the film made that much in VHS and DVD sales it might have never turned a profit. Artie Lange's Beer League might actually have made more money overall than Private Parts.
