You claimed Private Parts (released in March 97) did better than Beavis and Butt-Head do America (released December 20, 1997). And that's a niche movie about idiot teenagers.

Sorry that I'm going to Community Note your bullshit and add context. If you didn't cherry-pick statistics to make your point, you wouldn't need to be corrected.
I am starting to wonder if ol ben Dovid here is a bit. No one could be that retarded could they?

Howard's PR firm gives him "interesting" things to do and say on the air to appeal to new crowds. Chess was a big one for a while. Photography was another where he was bragging about his cameras and he would take all these photos of Beth or sunsets and whatnot and post them online. One of the most hilarious ones was 'collecting human skulls'. I guess his PR team thought it made him seem hardcore or edgy so once a week he would go on air and talk about the new bones he collected (cannibal wear bro!!). That one stopped pretty quickly.

Howard also is super into these wacky doctors that are basically cult leaders. Dr. Sarno was a big one. Probably one of the all time greatest exchanges on the show were the times that Howard claimed that Sarno's back therapy could also cure homosexuality. There is a passage in one of his books where he swears that chiropractics can stop someone from being gay. One time Artie brought this up on air, "you don't actually believe this crap still, right?", and you could tell Howard was deeply embarrassed and almost disturbed that it was being mentioned again and he just dropped the subject quickly.
In Miss America I believe he goes into how Dr Sarno cured him of OCD allegedly.

I spent of all 40 seconds looking at the IMDB chart. This bitch wants to sit and argue semantics. Point is, cunt, Private Parts did just fine at the box office for what it was. I don't know why this is the hill this bitch wants to sperg out on.

BUT WHAT IF A MOVIE CAME OUT ON DECEMEBER 30th 1997?!?!??! THATS NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!!!

Private Parts didn't make its money back. It takes two seconds to check that. The movie being a box office loser has been discussed a million times on Stern forums and websites. No one disputes it but you. Are you incapable of reading box office numbers and understanding even the basics and what they mean?

Howard's movie lost money in theaters. It might have turned a profit on VHS and DVD. But those numbers aren't public.

Well thats a tough one. I think it was a “bomb” not relative to how much money other movies made, or relative to “what it was”, i think it was a bomb relative to how Howard shilled it. Because the way he talks you would swear it was movie of the year. It wasn’t. However this is also assuming Howard or any other shock jock doesn’t constantly inflate their own self worth / value. Which, as we all know, they love to fawwwkin do….sniff

You spent 40 seconds on IMDB and arrived at a faulty, incomplete conclusion.

Instead of simply admitting this, you stubbornly insist you're right, I know nothing about how the box office works, and I should kill myself. But I'm the one sperging out on a hill, not you. You and your 40 seconds of research are not to be challenged.

It was a huge dud, and a major embarrassment considering how hard he pimped it. He ruined the radio show for the better part of a year, and that piece of shit was dead and buried by the second weekend. I saw it on Sunday, two days after it opened, in the heart of Stern country, and there were six people in that theater. I do remember when he came back after his post-premier break, and he was oddly subdued and quiet about it. That was one of the most heavily anticipated Stern shows ever, and it was a dud too.

No. It was bomb because it lost money. It literally lost several million. If the marketing budget included the Super Bowl commercial, the merchandise and swag which was tossed into a landfill, and compensation to CBS for extra days off, then you might be looking at a loss of $16million in 1997 when Private Parts was finally no longer being shown in theaters.

Stern fans have done the math on this already. It's why Howard never brings up the money aspect of his movie on air ever. So unless the film made that much in VHS and DVD sales it might have never turned a profit. Artie Lange's Beer League might actually have made more money overall than Private Parts.

$14,616,333 in 1997 would be $28,269,241 if it opened today.

Here are some movies Private Parts out-grossed in 1997:

Seven Years In Tibet
Vegas Vacation
Selena
The Full Monty
Beverly Hills Ninja
Event Horizon
Boogie Nights
Sling Blade
Air Bud
Beavis & Butthead Do America
The People Vs. Larry Flint
Jackie Brown
Chasing Amy
Mars Attacks

Beating out Private Parts in the next spot: Donnie Brasco by ~$700,000.

This is just more LingerLonger not knowing what he's talking about.
The Full Monty grossed $257 million. Private Parts grossed $41 million.

Unless you're playing "only 1997 counts!", in which case My Best Friend's Wedding was a bigger hit at the box office than Titanic.
The 1997 dollars thing is pointless so I'll disregard that but if it made 41 million in a 28 million budget it lost money. The 28 is just cost of making it so it you factor in all the wasted time in merchandise, the ads, the Superbowl commercial they easily spent more than 13 million. It was a bomb Danny you doofus

Edit a SB commercial alone cost 1.2 million for 30 seconds in 1997

That's neat. I saw it opening weekend as well, and there was a fucking line to get into the theater. But fuck that story, it doesn't fit the narrative here of Howard Stern is a big failure despite being wealthy and famous for 40 years. I'm not even going to bring up the 1.1 million copies of the book that sold, since that probably wouldn't help paint him as a loser.

Howard said himself that getting to #1 in books was supremely easy because the best selling books at any given moment only sell like thousands of copies a week. (Books like Harry Potter are major anomalies)

More than O&A, I think Jimmy needs to thank Stern for his success. Stern started a feud with Jay Leno and Leno hired Jimmy for the Tonight Show just to spite Stern. Leno also hired Stuttering John...when I was in California in the late oughts/early 10s, Jimmy would occasionally come out to LA to do a Tonight Show segment and might stop by The Improv. And the crowd would roar for him. I thought I was surrounded by O&A/comedy fans, but no, I think they just roared for him because he was on The Tonight Show.

You only need 1,000 copies to get on the NY Times 'best seller' list in most weeks. To get the top spot you can sell under 10,000 copies and have the number one book week after. Also they don't count the list by sales. It is an editorial list and not mathematical. So they just find a bunch of books that they 'think' are popular and put them in the list.

There was a lawsuit where an author knew that his book was the top selling book for retailers one week and he wasn't in the NY Times list. So he sued them to find out why his book wasn't listed. And the NY Times argued in court that the list was never based on numbers but based the "opinions of their staff" and they won. They literally just handpick their favorite books and call them 'best sellers'. Or they pick books from politicians or kikes and promote them despite zero sales figures being shown.

So it's just more jew lies. The jews just pick a bunch of trashy goyslop and pretend that those books are the 'best sellers'. Howard's books didn't sell well but they can be listed as 'best sellers' because 'best seller' lists are editorial lists not based on actual numbers.

I remember this lawsuit and it was such bullshit. Before then people didn't know that it was an 'editorial' list. It was assumed, as it should be, that it was a list curated from retailer numbers.

But the NYT would never lie to us, right?

Eh, Dr. Sarno's thesis is that real physical pain & inflammation, as well as things like OCD, can be caused by unresolved emotional problems. Thirty years ago, it was controversial. Now it's pretty much accepted as medical truth.

Howard is a fucking retard, but Sarno was just way ahead of his time.

The mind is complicated.

Did you ever just sit and think about water? Like, really think about it?

Seriously, if you have back pain or anything like that, just read Sarno. His book is like $10. If I'm wrong you're out $10. If I'm right then you just saved yourself a lot of unnecessary pain.

Perks? Opie's ego hired Kenny out of pocket. Po was building security at XM before Stern signed with Sirius. "Fleet" = 3 to 4 interns per semester.

I feel like a lot of you guys come up with topics and posts like how they do lotto. Just randomly suck names and events and shit them into a string with zero context.
