I try not to comment on people's technical skills, especially when its not my area. I don't have the details of what he set up, how long it took etc. So I have no idea, but in general, that's bullshit. If you work full-time for certain tech companies, they will do a background check and might have an issue. Depends on the "wokeness" of whoever is doing the interviews.

Has he tried? How many interviews did he do? It sounds like he's just assuming that will happen, or he tried a few times and got no response. Things like sox compliance might trip him up, but I doubt it. For contracting, you likely just sign and NDA; half the time, they don't even require that.

Basically for contracting, stay away from public sector jobs, anything military or financial and he'd likely be fine.


If he changed his name he could get a job easily. IT has a massive talent gap currently and is hiring everywhere. So without knowing the situation its likely that he either hasn't really put the effort in, was applying to the wrong jobs, or just isn't very good and was looking to come in as a senior engineer with no work history or portfolio.
