Last I heard (I don't follow closely so I may be mistaken) Somaliland is the Western aligned entity with Pizza Huts up in the North. They are backed by US/Anglos and were once under the British, and they were attacked by Somalia which is China-aligned but were repulsed by Somaliland. The China aligned Somalia encompasses what was Italian territory and also includes Mogadishu.
The other Somalis are in Djibouti and never wanted the French to leave so they are living good and not affected by the instability of neighboring Yemen or Somalia and Somali-land sees that and wants the same but with the English speaking West.
