Anything strictly gold backed would bring about deflation or alternatively to avoid this brings us back to some degree of fiat, the ability to control a fiat system in a free market economy comes in large part from perception, which comes from soft-power. When I see the central banks of BRICS conduct a significant percentage of their imports and exports in this new currency I will change my outlook, until then look at how many Russian and Chinese nationalists who want to kill us are saying this shit in NY Yankee hats for some idea of who has the soft power.
