The actual problem is inflation. Over 20 years your social security benefits will stay the same but you’ll be able to purchase less. Over 20 years the amount you’ve put into SS has been destroyed by inflation.

Then of course the other issue is putting people on SS who won’t pay into it as much as what they’ll get out of it, aka Migrants.

Then there's the fact that people are living way longer now than when it first started. It used to be extremely rare when people lived to 70 but now it's pretty common to live into your mid 80s.

I might be out of my depth so go easy! Fiat (debt based) currency was introduced in US around 1913 just to fill the pockets of elites - lending the Brits money & producing weapons - producing something which literally goes bang & needs replacing for 'security reasons' is peak inbuilt obsolescence.

With debt-based currency they basically borrowed/printed at least $1mil when you were born, with the expectation that you'd work to pay it back (I think you were overvalued tbf, no offence)... but even if you did well & made enough money to buy everything you need for the rest of your life, then you'll still be struggling because of inflation.
And that literal hard work which boomer parents did to buy the property you'll inherit will barely pay a month's rent after inflation, & property hoarding by elites, Blackrock, etc. But I guess it was your hard-working boomer parents who were dumb.

No, you’re getting it confused. Woodrow Wilson started the Federal Reserve in 1913. It wasn’t until 1971 when Nixon took us off the gold standard that we became a fiat currency. This also wasn’t done to “fill the pockets of the elite” but as an effect of globalism. From what I remember, the gist of it was that the US dollar was becoming a global reserve currency. Why? Because it was backed by gold. Instead of countries holding gold themselves, they’d hold USD believing it to be equal to the gold.

Yadda yadda…Mexico holding a lot of USD, its economy crashes, tries to redeem USD for gold and told “Uhh yeah we don’t have it” because US gold reserves had been steadily declining since the 40’s.

Anyway this is an economic policy that goes back like 200 years in this country and which i’m not too educated on. In the 1800’s you had people who wanted the gold standard, the silver standard, combined, greenbackers, and then their view of wether they wanted a central bank or not was independent of their former opinion, also going back to the start of the country.

The US is the biggest arms manufacturer and exporter in the world and has been since at least WW2. 5 of the biggest weapon manufacturers are all US and pull in 11 figures in revenue each (around 50 billion). This just fundamentally misunderstands how these things work. The Fed is not the one ultimately responsible but the Government is. The reason the US is in debt is because we don’t pull in enough revenue compared to our spending. So we have to borrow and it creates debt. Debt can be a good thing, as it shows confidence that you can pay said debt back and increase credit, but not where we are right now where its out of control. The expectation is not that an individual pays the debt back but the collective simply reduces it through taxation.

Second, the whole “printing money” thing is dumb because the Fed increases the money supply through buying bonds back (bonds they pay interest to) from the banks. When the Fed decreases the money supply they sell bonds, receive the money, and hold it.

A couple of dumb anecdotes:

• My wife nearly got trapped in South Africa during the pandemic. She does the same work that I do (I.T. consulting) and she had a week long gig scheduled at a company in South Africa. She was sweating bullets because she heard all the horror stories about the security situation in the country, and wasn't thrilled to go there, but she doesn't get to choose where the work is. It was literally the week that the pandemic kicked into 5th gear, and it was "up in the air" whether she'd have to go. Eventually, her job canceled the trip. The flight she was scheduled to take, it flew all the way to South Africa, something like twenty hours. Then it landed in SA, sat on the tarmac for a few hours, and turned around. I can't even IMAGINE how miserable it would be, to be stuck on a plane for something like 45 hours continuously. Even worse, if the lockdowns had begun a week later, she may have got "stuck" in Africa. :O
• "Blackhawk Down" made Africa look like a disgusting infernal shithole. Hot, dirty, dusty, grimy, awful. Then one day I pulled up some pictures of where the movie was... and it's really nice.
