As much as I DO believe Carlin was a bleeding-heart liberal.

Carlin never knew or met his father.
How did he lose money doing that? His career exploded once he started doing "edgy material" that was edgy in a completely acceptable way. He made millions and was only so prolific because he neglected his taxes and owed the IRS.
I find a lot of Hicks’ material to be funny but that special where he gets “shot” at the end is embarrassingly self indulgent. I never really liked Carlin but have only watched maybe 3 specials and some clips. Carlin going to rehab at age 70 is a good bit though.
