Fucking awful. It took me four sittings to get through it and Goodfellas and Casino are some of my favourite films. And I'm interested in the whole Hoffa/60s/mafia/CIA conspiracy theory thing. But it was just clunky, masturbatory, self-indulgent horseshit from a bunch of old men 30 years past their prime.

The thing I don't get about this shit is -- Scorsese could still get his movie made with unknowns. There's definitely some really good 40 year old dude on stage in Chicago or somewhere who is actually tall with blue eyes and would crush the role. You'd think Scorsese would like finding and making new stars rather than de-aging a dude pushing 80, making him wear lifts and changing the color of his eyes

I'm not trying to be too cool for the room (my favourite is Goodfellas) but I think Silence is one of his best. It's a great story about conviction and courage.

Casino is probably the most enjoyable of his movies to me. Goodfellas is regarded as the undisputed classic but Casino just has a more entertaining setting and the dynamic between De Niro/Pesci/Sharon Stone is fucking great.

Taxi Driver is really good too, it's just very depressing and downbeat so you have to be in the right mood to watch it.

I get what you're saying, but this seems like a unique situation. I think people are always pretty pumped for a Scorsese mob movie and you could even have the pesci character as an old man. Just was rough with the main character with a lot of physicality being 80.

Actually, the mob movie genre lends itself well to having old actors because the bosses and people in prison are often elderly. Who knows if DeNiro's tough guy ego would let him play an aging mob boss though

You hit the nail on the head with that last part. For a lot of these guys, it’s their last real addition to their legacy. DeNiro is well aware of being in shit movies, there’s plenty of shit on him complaining to his cunt wife about her spending. They needed to be in major roles for what will probably be there last great movie. The hope was star power and nostalgia would carry it but, none of those old guys have it anymore, and it didn’t look good.

The portrayal of the time period is pretty entertaining though, if you're into that stuff. But in that case you might as well watch a better movie like Thirteen Days or Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Always wanted to watch TTSS people said it was really slow. Is it worth the pacing ? I don’t mind slow pacing I prefer it actually as long as it’s worth it.

It wasn’t that bad at all. The people who wanted goodfellas wolf of Wall Street or casino are going to hate it. But I put it more into the category of his “other” movies. Like silence, king of comedy, color of money,

it’s a movie about a sociopath who’s way od making a living is murder. He’s not interesting at all he’s a jerk off who murders people. The world he exists in, and the characters who he interact with are nteresting.

he never becomes wealthy or changes as a person. Whatever he does gain he loses along with his family. It’s an anti crime movie if anything. He’s a boring stupid man who happens to kill for a living. in the same way a guy works in a factory his whole life with no aspirations of becoming more than that.

I think the people who shit all over this movie don’t have a good grasp on film. That’s not to say it isn’t filled with flaws because it is. But it’s a solid movie worth watching. Pacino is entertaining as fuck even though he’s just being who he is with a bad Chicago accent.

Pesci is a better actor than deniro. It showed in raging bull and it’s on display here. He just doesn’t have a look to be in as many roles. He has the range.

Also, Not for nothing but he told Louie to go fuck himself for the part of his uncle in Horace and Pete. Then told him he doesn’t eat pussy because that’s faggot simp shit. What a great fucking man Joe is. Must be something about that name Joseph.
