I’m surprised you haven’t played more Metal Gear. I feel that series is exactly what you’d be looking for. Especially the older ones.

I've seen gameplay of 1 and 2 and didn't like the complete reliance on radar (or the goofy plot stuff). Phantom Pain has amazing gameplay though. I actually have Ground Zeroes too, and that's pfg.

My main tip for enjoying Phantom Pain is to not get the dog. Scouting enemy bases before you infiltrate is half the fun, and the dog just marks everyone instantly.

Have any of you heard of the Sega Master System, Turbo Grafx, or the NES Top loader version?

I had the Turbo Grafx. My dumb fuck dad made us get rid of it at some point along with tons of other toys that would have been worth a ton today. Plenty more than his dumb ass sportscard “investment” collection. Was it REALLY taking up too much space to keep? Fucking idiot.

Wasteland 3 is a hidden gem; don't worry about not playing the first two, as they were made years before.

Also the XCOM series was rebooted in the last decade, so check that out.
I did play XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Within and XCOM 2. They were great. XCOM 2 was a downgrade and janky as shit, but I had fun.

I stopped playing video games many years ago but I do like watching video game movies. This is where someone stitches the cut scenes and some gameplay together to make it look just like a movie. I just finished watching the new call of duty modern warfare "movies" and they were pretty good, highly recommend the mortal kombat ones too.
