I used to do that with 'uh' and 'uhm'. 10-15 years ago I saw some interview with Danny Devito and he talked about how much he hated those kinds of filler words/crutches and that he saw it a lot with the younger generation. I haven't done it since. It's a bit wild that an old throwaway interview with Danny Devito of all people can have such a big impact.
