Sirius / XM has no way to determine ratings.

I've been saying this for almost ten years now.

They don't have the faintest clue how many people are listening.

You can make some guesstimates about how popular a show is, based on how many hits they get on YT. Based on this metric, nearly nobody is listening. XM could seriously broadcast white noise to help people to go to sleep, and they'd have more listeners.

I haven’t checked but they probably do have some kind of sleeping channel. Like ocean waves or ASMR.

I don’t know, I just remember a few years ago I’d find the occasional funny clip. They must not have been that damn funny because I stopped looking.

Sniff. I think we get too isolated in this bubble of hating O&A that we forget how many O&A fans are still around who don’t hate O&A / didn’t follow the drama any deeper than when they broke up. It’s insane to think about, but there are people who listen to one of the three shows because they’re actually fans of these faggots. They never stopped listening so they don’t even understand the deevolution content wise from O&A > O&J > J&S. Or from O&A to Compound and etc.

I mean I still listen to the show almost daily on YouTube. If they came back through some miracle I would be a mark for them. And they all get on my nerves and I’m not blind to what terrible people they are. But I would listen. And like you said there are people out there who really don’t know just how horrible they are, you can tell in the comments of the compound clips. Hell, there are people who unironically listen to Opie’s weird show thing.

I don’t hate those people at all. Life is short, they have something they like listening to, good for them. I have to drive a lot for my work and hobbies and every day life. I’m also rather domesticated so I do most of the cooking and the cleaning because I like it, I like going on big road trips with my kids, I like all that stuff. So I have a lot of time where I have something in my ear and I wish I still had some thing as funny as peak Opie and Anthony to listen to.

If they have convinced themselves that Jim and Sam is still funny, or Opie, or Anthony’s show, I envy them in a way. I’ve never been able to replace da show. Bonfire was close. Cumtown was close but it was missing that “radio” feeling I like and now it’s gone too.

Regular radio is really really bad. Jim and Sam are bad. But at least they can mostly say what they want to say and they aren’t doing Monday songs and they aren’t doing war of the roses, so I don’t think it’s all that unusual that they would have an audience.

Of course regular radio is terrible. You have to be a sub-75 IQ moron (or above the age of 50) to listen to it unironically now. I don't think comparing Jim & Sam to that is appropriate. That'd be like saying that breaking both of your legs isn't as bad as getting AIDS.

The question is if they have a non-boomer/idiot audience when there's a million edgy, comedy podcasts out there AND scores of archives of O&A, R&F, and Howard Stern shows from when they weren't garbage to compete with.

I'll give them a listen depending on what guest they have on. Otherwise if it's just Jim and Sam, or the two of them and whatever twink guests Sam likes to bring in, it's boring and annoying at times. Sam can't steer the ship either.
