What demographic listens to "Jim and Sam?"

Honest question. I suppose the obvious answer is "Opie and Anthony" fans -- but didn't most O&A fans listen for O&A?

I think everyone can reasonably agree that no new fans are listening. Imagine your uncle or friend getting a new car with Sirius, flipping through the channels, hearing Sam's voice and becoming hooked? You have to be gradually introduced to Sam, first with Jocktober.

Perhaps Chip Chipperson/stand-up fans? Maybe WWE fans at this point? It honestly perplexes me.

Name the demographic that wants occasional irrevent Tranny hooker talk from the early 2000s, mixed with middle-of-the-road commentary and wrasslin'/sneaker talk? Granted, I haven't listened in 5 years, so maybe they reinvented themselves.

All that being said, I'm sure both Cumpound Media and Opie would kill for the ratings they pull in weekly.

Probably only truckers at this point. When do they have relevant people on? Even with the dumb “we got them on the way up, and on the way down” OnA shit, those people were either relevant, or became very relevant. Don’t forget the Lady Di call in with Aziz right before he became huge. No one gives a shit about them, so I’d assume their audience reflects that.

It must be a small audience but Sirius needs some kind of “talk” show to fill time. For example Jim Norton is playing venues nowhere near the size he used to when he was on OnA, he’s playing Rich Vos size venues. In an era where they hand out comedy specials to anyone when was the last Norton one? I guess they might get some WWE fans to listen because of Sam but Norton? Seems far-fetched

I know truckers are a major part of O&A "lore," but this is probably unironically accurate. Boomer truckers who used to listen to the show and don't really give a fuck either way, but remember Jimmy being funny.

Don't have to futz with your phone or download podcasts and Sirius, unlike regular radio, doesn't lose its signal as you're hauling freight across state lines

I quit listening a few years ago. It turned into a morning zoo show with lots of boomer women callers, porn stars and wrestlers. It never came close to an opie and anthony type of show.

Not strictly truckers but anyone who is on the road a lot- especially in the rural west where local radio is abysmal and 4G coverage is nonexistent.

But the number of people who are willing to pay SxM's ridiculous fees over internet based media and/or pre downloaded podcasts/audiobooks has got to be shrinking massively

I can't imagine anyone actually listening to Jim and Sam, even as background noise. They're worse than any of the shows that ever got Jocktober'd. I can't even get past their stupid intro

I listen to them periodically when they're on in the morning on my way to work on the off chance Blobby, Vosh, or someone else entertaining might be on, but it's really only if I listened to The Bonfire on my way home the night before since the radio would still be on Faction when I get in the car in the morning. It's just boring background noise. Jimmy went on a rant about Bluetooth the other day which was unnecessary. They might as well Jocktober themselves at this point.

Sirius is for sure doing something sketchy. I was able to get some kind of all-access promo for a year last year for like $12 a month (it's usually something like $26-$30 after taxes and fees), and when I tried to cancel last month, the rep asked why I was canceling, and I told him I didn't like the commercials on the premium channels and that there was too much talking from the "DJ's" on most of the music channels, so he offered to give me a new all-access promo for another year for $8 a month. I'm assuming they know they aren't going to do well with just subscriber money alone, so they want to have lots of subscribers on paper to show to investors and are probably omitting how many of those subscribers are on a free trial or a deeply discounted promo. I don't think I've paid the actual amount for a subscription since 2012-2013, I just check r/siriusxm every once in a while for someone to post a new promo. This is the first time someone in retentions actually gave me a cheaper price for the same promo for another year though.

Wow. I was listening to see how long until jim started talking, but had to tap out :brothaman_sm:

I guess he's doing the same thing as O&A where he's quiet for the first 15 minutes of the show, but that doesn't work when you're the main co-host

I'll give Sam credit -- he's definitely trying. I just don't care to listen to him.

Sirius / XM has no way to determine ratings.

I've been saying this for almost ten years now.

They don't have the faintest clue how many people are listening.

You can make some guesstimates about how popular a show is, based on how many hits they get on YT. Based on this metric, nearly nobody is listening. XM could seriously broadcast white noise to help people to go to sleep, and they'd have more listeners.

Everyone knew there were no ratings. That's why Howard Stern was constantly going on and on and on about how popular he is; there was no way to dispute what he was saying because there are no ratings.

Opie attempted similar stunts, by trying to create the narrative that Howard Stern and the Opie and Anthony show were "at war" with each other. The idea was ridiculous; Anthony Cumia used to appear on the Howard Stern show, and there was never any beef between the two of them.

It's similar to what happened with Blur and Oasis in the 1990s; by creating a fake rivalry between the two bands, it raised the popularity of both of them.
