I never said Artie being a junkie can be laid at howards feet but I think that environment led to him convince himself for longer that what he was doing was normal and not fucked up and dysfunctional because nobody called him on it until he couldn't show up AND be sober at the same time. He was bringing dealers to the building to snorting H in the stairwells, which would have been enough for anyone else to be fired.


And like I said I like kinison, I think he's funny, but trying to be a rock star was just goofy. He was a great comic, but he wasn't a great musician. People came to see him be funny, not to pretend he was touring with the rolling stones. Hell Leno even talked about going to the Store and seeing Kinison having a gun, doing rails in the back with a bunch of creepy people (probably coke dealers and hookers) and being so turned off he just stopped going there entirely. The point I was making wasn't that kinison couldn't pull it off on some level, it was that it created that environment that incorrectly convinced comics that they could be "Cool". The fact it Radio and Comics go together so well precisely because they are both near the bottom run of show business. Even kinison, had he not been providing free coke to all and sundry, wouldn't have had all the women and rocker friends hanging around.
