The Court is obviously well aware of the publicity involved in this particular case, so they will in all likelihood ban all video and audio recording devices from the courtroom, if it were to go to trial. All of the outbursts from Fatso and The Frump will have to be reported on from courtroom observers, news reporters, and sketch artists. The best parts of observing the trial would be watching the recorded depositions, as well as watching the Jury's reactions to everything.

Trials are EXTREMELY expensive, especially ones where a City and a bunch of cops are being sued. The City and the Police told the Plaintiffs to not only go fuck themselves, but we will not settle, and we're going all the way with this. That can't have been good for The Grifters because now their lawyers are probably advising them it's probably best to drop it or you'll need to pay us [$this amount of thousands] in order to represent you during the depositions and trial phase.

District Court is where it was filed. This Judge easily grants privatizing stuff from the public, so he doesn't appear to want a media circus made out of this, especially since he's seen The Grifters' publicity shenanigans. No grounds for appeals and denial of appeals are the best roads to take when it comes to vexatious litigants like Fatso.
