Yeah that’s not how it would go. Even if he got Valium to get him through withdrawal, he’d then have to stay sober after physically detoxing. Problem is, he’s still Pat. The mental aspect of being an angry drunk will remain even without a drop in his body. He will quickly need a drink for some relief and he’ll be off to the races again.

Pat is a garden variety drunk. The only drunks who get and stay sober go through a major ego death first. He’s a long way off from that.
