Yeah I wanted to like joker more because I love king of comedy but it just made me want to watch King of comedy instead. Phoenix was good in the role and at least was R and made as a one-off and not to sell merchandise to kids and adult kids like Pat. I liked that idea going into it that it wouldn’t be that.

Yeah Bale is a good actor, but he really wasn't well know before Batman. I also felt like Robin Williams best movies were the lesser known ones. One Hour Photo and World's Greatest Dad were fantastic. This scene in One Hour Photo freaked me out first time I saw it, but now I find it hilarious.

I imagine Pat probably hated Joker because it didn't have enough action for a special boy like him. Probably also was one of those people trying to link the movie to the alt-right and Nazi's.

I bet you’re right, Joker also is a comic book character that has zero powers and that movie showed he could be a regular person who loses it. Even Christopher Nolan’s joker while great performance from Ledger still had an army, tons of firepower, etc which is still cape shit.

Worlds Greatest Dad is to me his best role and it’s a shame so few have seen it. Sadly his big budget wide release movies were majority shit. He had much more bad movies compared to good ones.

I know it probably sounds gay... but whether Hollywood meant it or not, Joker had a bit of a deeper meaning for a lot of people who are sick and tired of the bullshit we have shoved in our faces everyday, and are sick and tired of not really seeing much of a future for ourselves or families unless things drastically change...

World's Greatest Dad is one of those movies it's hard to recommend to people because of how fucking dark it is. I used to tell all my normie friends when he died to watch it just to fuck with them.

Pacino always had a lot more range than De Niro who was good for a while at playing both quiet and loud psychos basically.

You think of De Niro's best (or most famous) performances - Mean Streets, GF2, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, King of Comedy, Cape Fear - they're all basically variations on two roles, the button-down psycho and the manic one. He also occasionally strayed into playing ruthlessly competent men - Once Upon A Time In America, Goodfellas, Casino, Heat, even his most famous comedy roles - Midnight Run, Meet the Parents - are kind of tweaked versions of that character. He can't do warm, he can't really do likeable and he never seems particularly comfortable with women onscreen, unlike Pacino.

I remember reading an unauthorised biography of De Niro years ago that quoted sources as saying De Niro made a conscious decision to "sell out" in the mid to late 90s. Apparently he was sick of the fact that, while he had high critical and professional respect, he hadn't made nearly as much money as some of his peers. He also had burgeoning business aspirations to fund with the Tribeca production company, the Tribeca Grill and his investment in Nobu. On top of that he got divorced in the late 80s, had 2 kids to support in maintenance and remarried and had more kids to look after. That explains films like Rocky and Bullwinkle, Showtime, Analyze That etc etc.

And you know what? Why not? No one gives shit about Gene Hackman (a far better actor than De Niro in my opinion) for cashing in with the likes of Superman IV - the Quest for Peace, BAT 21, or seemingly endless John Grisham adaptations in between performances like Unforgiven and Crimson Tide. But then maybe that's because Hackman was always brilliant, even in a bad film.

Indeed. Who else could have made Uncommon Valor (1983) bearable, or dare I say it, good. No one! You could tell that C list supporting cast genuinely respected him.
