That’s Karl Pilkington, he used to be a producer and regular contributor of Ricky Gervais’ and Stephen Merchant’s radio show back in the early 00’s and their podcasts.

The dude’s (unintentionally) hilarious. He’s just a regular bloke with a hilarious and very pure view of the world.

I recommend watching the animated Ricky Gervais show that aired on HBO. Those are animations of moments from their podcast. Karl is a big part of that. Sorry for this wall of text.

Also, Frodo and Sam aren't gay. They are just best friends/"brothers". All the autistic people on Twitter and Reddit just don't know what having a best friend is like so they immediately think they are degenerates just like them. Frodo and Sam not only grew up together in a healthy, social community but then they went to war together. Just a tight, platonic, male bond. And maybe some occasionally ass-fucking.
I'm pretty sure C.S. Lewis (Tolkien's brotha from another mother) said something along the lines of, you'd have to be a morally vacant husk to want to reduce instances of Platonic love to some supposed, hidden carnal desire.

Both guys fought in the trenches of WWI and were deeply religious so you can see how they might've gotten a bit peeved at homosex insinuations.

If you really know your Tolkien and care about it, you’ll fucking hate it, if you just like the movies and that style of world, you’ll probably give the first season a fair shake.

That’s my taking from watching it, so far.
It's godawful even if you're just a movie fan. The LOTR films were really well-crafted in almost every respect, they were highly entertaining and impressive regardless of whether you knew jackshit about the books beforehand

This show is just bland and awful. Everything's wooden and by the numbers, the dialogue is laughably shit and clunky, the action is ludicrous, every character is dour and joyless and the narrative is a jumbled mess of countless dumb subplots that no one cares about. All the CGI they poured gorillions into aren't particularly awe-inspiring either. It feels like a second-rate GOT knockoff aimed at minors.

Ignoring the LOTR brand and baggage, the fact is that the show's just not fun. If it's not fun, why bother?

I’m just a movie fan and you summed up my thoughts pretty exact.

The thing I loved about the movies, the story really hooked me from the start. I cared about all the characters and really cared about their goal. With this series, what i don’t even know what the fucking plot is? This blonde chick who wants to avenge her brother? OK… well I just don’t give a shit if she fails or succeeds.

Tried watching the latest one today but just spent most of the time Jim Nortoning

3 episodes in and it is already uninteresting. You can see where the money went but it's worthless with such a tepid plot.
