Subject: Urgent Concern Regarding Treatment of Donald Ekpeki and Request for Organizational Action


To whom it may concern,

I am writing as a concerned and committed member of SFWA, deeply troubled by the recent and unfair treatment of Donald Ekpeki, a democratically elected director and an essential voice for marginalized communities within our organization.

Donald has consistently advocated for disenfranchised minorities and has brought critical perspectives to our organization that resonate with many members, including myself. His commitment to equity and inclusivity has been a valuable asset to SFWA. However, the recent allegations and instances of bias directed against him are disheartening and raise significant concerns regarding systemic issues within our organization.

As an organization committed to justice and equity, it is our duty to ensure that everyone, particularly those in leadership roles, is supported and treated with respect. The accusations and the manner in which they have been handled suggest an underlying, systemic issue with bias that must be addressed. I strongly urge SFWA to issue a public statement reaffirming our commitment to standing against all forms of racism and bias, specifically in support of Donald Ekpeki, who has been unfairly targeted.


This issue goes beyond one individual; it speaks to our values as an organization. I ask that a comprehensive review and discussion around systemic racism and bias within SFWA be prioritized to ensure fair treatment for all members and leaders. This is an opportunity for us to make a clear, positive impact and to demonstrate our genuine commitment to inclusivity.
