There was once a discussion on o&a about what happens if you turn the ignition off in your car while driving. Ant said it cant happen and there are failsafes because of stupid people, but callers said it turns the car off and locks the wheels and brakes, it never did get tested or come to a conclusion. So what happens?

GM had a couple of deaths cause the spring in the ignition key thingamajig was too weak. People were shutting off their ignition by bumping into it with their knees. A smart driver could safely coast to a stop at the side of the road, but some people died anyway.
