Opie is like a 14 year old making up stories to fit in. All of his stories are far fetched and lack any real details when questioned. A man with no friends, no family and no life history.

his current "family" is a trophy wife that doesn't let him in the house. well,, apartment, because Gregg is intimidated by baisc machines and appliance upkeep and can't fix them
judging by his youtube videos he's living alone at the sea shack full time and can barely manage to shave or get a haircut

Opie didn't mind others laughing at his expense, that's what made the show great.

My favorite has to be the Opie Near Death Boogie Boarding story. He just kept trying to squeeze it in until they all piled on and shit on him for it.
