But folks don't know who this Ed Powers fellow is. Isn't picking someone so obscure like making an inside joke about your uncle that your siblings/cousins would crack up about at the office and then getting mad your coworkers didn't get it?The context of the joke was a library renting Austin Powers but there was porn inside instead. If you know who Ed Powers is, the joke rules.
Yes. Bombing big is more memorable than getting a laugh. If a joke bombs so hard that it's still talked about over a decade later, was it really a bomb?
Erock, comment?
Case in point: all of Vos' repertoire.Yes. Bombing big is more memorable than getting a laugh.

There were massive bombs on that show on a daily basis. Much more monumental "bombs" than this one. But this is the one you heard on some Danny Sucks YouTube compilation, so it's all you know.
How’s your dead dad? Still dead?Have you ever listened to the bit in question? I'm gonna go with no.
Yeah, I guess since 9/11 is mentioned every year it wasn't really that bad. Maybe people are celebrating its anniversary. Or even dancing to it.If a joke bombs so hard that it's still talked about over a decade later, was it really a bomb?

I genuinely never knew who Ed Powers was until today. Genuinely. No disrespect, but it was a bad joke from day one and never deserved anything but confusion (even if you knew who Ed Powers was (straight men don't know male porn stars, but that shouldn't preclude your target audience)).
The format of the premise was something like, "she wanted doctor evil, and instead she got..." After a few attempts you come in by cheating on the original premise with a new one: "She wanted Austin Powers and instead she got Ed Powers (who?)"
Even if you knew Ed Powers (and obscure joke references are only funny when they're high brow (or at least middle brow) esoterica, e.g. Denis Miller), changing the format to suit your need was bewildering.
Cheers
