How did Artie last so long at Stern?

I'm not surprised by the amount of drugs Artie did, but I am surprised at how much he would eat during any given show. I remember once they listed everything he had that day, and it was a bagel, pop tarts, tiramisu, Hostess cupcakes, pancakes from McDonald's, and two cans of Hawaiian Punch, all before the show was over. And after the show he'd get an entire pizza and chicken parmesan.

And somehow it wasn't annoying, like with O&A and Jimmy being such baby boys they couldn't go over 40 mins without intern-fetched nourishment

KC trump's them all on the crazy, even Artie. I am still surprised he never killed someone. Still time, I guess.

John is attacked by the WATP idiots, Shuli and Anthony constantly. It's a mini war of retards between the three and I hope it ends with all of them getting AIDS.

Lad, Howard's abuse of intern work goes beyond just this weirdness. His show alone, not to mention other shows like O&A, single handedly changed the whole laws of internship in New York BECAUSE of how much money he saved/profited off the backs of free intern work. And God forbid they try to make some money off his name!

Take it from a man who drank a wee bit too much on his younger years, as well as a shit diet - you eat too many carbs and/or sugar, you'll crash hard. It's the worst feeling in the world, you shouldn't be tired but you are and can't fight it, hence my lifestyle change.

Grillo was an intern for what, 7 years? Ronnie inviting all the female interns and only one male intern to his block party was hilarious. Plus he had one stay over at his house to watch his dog because he deemed her trustworthy after knowing her for a month.

Howard is a naive, closeted dork who didn't know what a junkie looked like. He couldn't tell at first.

However, when he realized it, after enough people including Artie admitted it, he then monetized it. He all but encouraged it for entertainment value. Which is fine, but don't pretend you didn't.

At the end of the day, it's not Howard's place to stop Artie from doing drugs. It wasn't Lorne Michaels place to stop Belushi or Farley from doing drugs. It wasn't Vince McMahon's responsibility to stop his retards from drinking and drugging. It wasn't Jim Henson's responsibility to curtail notorious addict Kermit The Frog. People who live "crash out" schedules where you work early in the morning and late at night in front of thousands of people and then you're instantly in a room alone by yourself afterwards... You have to let your talent cope with that.. If they can't handle their drugs, that's their own fault.

To be fair, Artie was an exceptionally high-functioning addict for the amount of drugs he did to remain employed in a corporate setting for as long as he did, he had to become a pro at dishonesty. At the same time, it was the Stern Show -- In other words Robin, the bar for behavior was lower it was tolerated for the show and expected to happen as the show is and always has been SXM's priority.

Artie had people including THE D fooled for a few stints listening live. Artie's sobriety was like Terry Funk's retirement. Not only did Artie not contribute at times, but he actively ruined the show with his repetitive junkie bragging as someone else mentioned probably after snorting coke in the same bathrooms Tim Sabean destroyed. THE D thought it was amusing at first and was USUALLY on Artie's side in arguments, especially HBO Joe Buck, vs Maryann Brooklyn, vs Lisa G, and plenty of others. Artie was right a lot of the time, despite bugging out like a junkie..

Not just Howard but almost everyone else but Robin on the show enabled and encouraged Artie to be a junkie. When Artie finally snapped on air at Teddy it was obvious that Robin was fed up with Artie's behavior and wanted him either fired or forced into rehab. And that Howard obviously felt like a lawsuit or major HR issue was going to involve him personally because he protected Artie for years from any consequences. Howard was shook that he had lost control over his own studio and was afraid of being blamed.

The government tried to force him to stop steroid use in 80s and 90s but he just waited it out like a champion. And by the end of the 90s you had Major League Baseball having players roided out more than WWF stars. The government basically backed off Vince when they saw freaks like Barry Bonds or MacGuire and Sosa hitting 700ft homeruns every other plate appearance. Now everyone in the WWE is back on the roids again.

One of the best junkies of all time. Survives multiple suicide attempts that were violent and real. Beats tons of arrests and jail sentences. Endless second chances in show business each time with six figure deals per year. Incredible stamina and endurance and sheer will to live despite decades of heroin and cheeseburgers. Truly a specimen. He needs his own King David statue in New Jersey near an open air drug market.

Beer League was what turned everyone around. 2005 was the last time that fans thought Artie was sober from at least coke. 2006 was when it was obvious he was using heroin and street opiates.

How old is his mother? Gotta be in her 80’s now, right? Imagine, spending your twilight years having to watch over your mid-50s son. I believe Stuttering Johns mother is in the same boat.

As to why Sirius never fired him, he had Howard’s protection, Sirius did whatever Howard wanted, and Howard is also a blind fool. He had no idea what a functioning addict resembled; hell, Ralph was with him for decades and he couldn’t really tell how fucked he was.

Simple answer. Talent.

Even in 09 when he was outed as a drug addict and everything negative was out there he still had moments that are memorable and are enjoyed to this day. When you are talented and in the entertainment business you can get away with a whole heap of shit that most other places wouldn't tolerate.

Being a literal on air junkie, and all.

It seems that in those last years all he did was show up with some Steve C level plate of food (big ass tupperware of lasagna and 2 burgers) and just eat on air and not contribute. Then he’d lay on the floor or nod off. Even after attempting to assault an employee he faced no reprecussions.

Legitimately how? Did corporate not notice or care? Give him too many chances? Help.
He was funny?

Artie enhanced the show off the cuff even when he was half asleep. Right towards the end, he became insufferable, but the fact that sometimes he would chime in without knowing what was going on but was still able to keep up shows his level of talent. Which is a shame it was wasted covering for his own babyboy addiction.
