I love how he created the Simpsons in a rush because he wanted to save his rabbit comics. He assumed that would be his true goldmine.

I think that's it. The Simpsons appeared in short clips on a comedy show. Very crude drawings. Not particularly funny. But somewhat charming and interestingly grounded. James Brooks and Sam Simon improved on it by turning it into a show. Groening didn't write a single episode. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.)
