Memories of Murder, Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, The Chaser, A Bittersweet Life, I Saw the Devil, Thirst.

Those Chinamen make some fawkin great movies
That's South Korean film, stupid.

Seriously though the revenge trilogy and I Saw the Devil are amazing. I remember Oldboy and the Belgian film Man Bites Dog (which I think is still up uncensored on YouTube for free) were the first two foreign movies that I saw that really got me into foreign stuff.

On the Silver Globe is a legit masterpiece and it's a film everyone should watch.

Unfortunately it's unfinished but the fact that it manages to be so good in spite of that is amazing.

"In the fall of 1977, the project came to a sudden halt when Janusz Wilhelmi was appointed vice-minister of cultural affairs. Wilhelmi shut down the film project, which was eighty percent complete, and ordered all materials destroyed.

The reels of the unfinished film were ultimately not destroyed, but preserved, along with costumes and props, by the film studio and by members of the cast and crew. Although Wilhelmi died a few months later in a plane crash, the film was only released after the end of communist rule. In May 1988, a version of the film, consisting of the preserved footage plus a commentary to fill in the narrative gaps, premiered at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival.[3]"

The Japanese make the best movies about murderous scumbags. If you find this kind of movie interesting, I'd also recommend Cold Fish and Forest of Love by Sion Sono.

I just saw that movie Dogtooth from Greece. Weird as hell and I loved it. I like non-Hollywood stuff because the directors basically get to make their own films. Does anybody have any foreign movie recommendations?
No bullshit, soon as I saw the title I was going to recommend Dogtooth. I loved it as well and it's the last film I watched with big interest. I also keep notes on all films I watch (gay) and this is what I put down for it:

"A brilliant concept with great execution. There were a lot of opportunities that were taken and that's not something you see with every independent film. This world and its rules are clear-cut from the start and that allows for deeper immersion and more enjoyment. Only thing preventing it from scoring higher are the cliffhanger ending and just minor places where there was spotty acting. Loved it, though." - Dogtooth (84/100)

As far as actual recommendations, I would put forward both Hara-kiri: Death of a Samurai and El Topo. Hara-kiri actually made me cry a little (double gay)

Been meaning to check out El Topo for a while now. How does Hara-kiri compare to the original?

I think it's just as good if not slightly better. I would encourage you to check out El Topo soon if you can too, ended up enjoying it a whole lot more than I thought.

Decent enough disaster film from Norway. Worth the watch if you haven’t seen it.
