Joking aside, do you think it is begrudging?

Do you think the authors were nervous and hesitant to mention it at all, or they felt that was the most natural way to put it. Do you think it originally said "Sara Rue was born to a jewish family..." and after a minor edit war over a week, the other guy got a sneaky win by placing that fact at the end of the paragraph?

The other thing to consider is how old the article was. If it was written a decade ago, it might have been a different climate. That fact might be tacked on because the original author really didn't know that Shlackman was a jewish name.

For someone in his 30's, I feel pretty dumb not knowing this. What's a good way to brush up on the personality/political breakdown of the various states, besides starring at red/blue maps that mostly tell you how many mexicans are in them? Particularly the real personal character of them, beyond the political. Is there a relatively simple way to learn that sort of thing, without living in each and every state for a year?
