And that, sure, fags were the main source of death, but average people got infected too (mainly due to the aforementioned lack of knowledge) and the Government started to give a shit. When they started giving AIDS blood willy nilly and infecting kids and women thats when people realized it was serious. Not to mention junkies but people care about them less than fags.

Even though I didn’t live through the 80’s i can see how at the time people would be fucking freaked out by it - Especially the blood transfusion part where no one would really know if they were giving or receiving blood with AIDS.

That's true, but I think it's for children younger than that. There's a theory that the "terrible twos" is caused by children figuring out that not everyone likes what they like. So for example, they like screaming loudly in public places. They notice that other people aren't enjoying it and it fascinates them. They get that smug expression on their face like the assholes they are.

For some people it never completely goes away. I can't think of a good example, but I'm sure you've noticed that adults who have a very childish black-and-white attitude to the world, and in particular politics, assume that everyone else is as biased as they are.
