Pat seems to have a very child-like mindset that you see with kids age 5-10 where they think if they like it EVERYONE likes it and if they don’t like it NOBODY likes it and can’t understand people having different tastes and interests.

That's true, but I think it's for children younger than that. There's a theory that the "terrible twos" is caused by children figuring out that not everyone likes what they like. So for example, they like screaming loudly in public places. They notice that other people aren't enjoying it and it fascinates them. They get that smug expression on their face like the assholes they are.

For some people it never completely goes away. I can't think of a good example, but I'm sure you've noticed that adults who have a very childish black-and-white attitude to the world, and in particular politics, assume that everyone else is as biased as they are.
