They didn’t because it’s pretty explicit that the Federal government and Border Control have jurisdiction over the borders, not the states.

Now Abbot technically has a case under Article 4, Section 4 of the constitution.

“The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union… protect(ion) for each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.”

As this statute reads the legislature must first declare an invasion has occurred. This requires proof of such more than just saying “We are being invaded.” In fact, Abbott never made this declaration until AFTER the Supreme Court ruled against him. If this were a real issue and the Republicans are as righteous as you say, Abbot would have declared an invasion to do whatever he wants before the issue even got to the Supreme Court.
