It's apples and pears when it comes to this subject. Conscription has been the norm in Europe for ages because the enemy was nearly always right on their doorstep. For most of those countries, the dismantling of mandatory service was an aberration (and a mistake), and they're drastically taking steps to beef up their military once it became apparent that Putin wasn't bluffing.

The Brits could afford to institute mandatory service on an ad hoc basis because of their relatively detached position to the continent, which is why this debate flares up there every once in a while. The US is even more privileged in this regard, to the point where conscription is actually more of a negative than a positive. For a German or a Frenchmen, the last memory of conscription is mindless drudgery in a barracks the 80s, but with the acknowledgement that it was a necessity. For an American, it's Vietnam.

America doesn't need conscription to achieve its foreign policy goals. Ideally, it shouldn't commit itself militarily to any considerable degree at all. A country like Poland has a need to be able to mobilize a quarter of a million men with a day's notice, the US just doesn't. What possible use would it serve? If China decides to take Taiwan, they're not going to be deterred by half a million reservists sitting on the other side of the Pacific if they think they can rush the island before Congress even has the time to make a decision. What is going to deter them are aircraft carriers and AA and anti-ship batteries near Taiwan itself, which would make such an invasion a near-impossibility to begin with. It's a far savvier move for the US to invest in professional military means and technology than to use that money for conscription, which has no added benefit and would only cause a whole bunch of new problems. A superpower like the US doesn't need huge reserves of manpower to station regiments all across the world when it can achieve the same results with far smaller and more versatile installations that can be pulled up and moved at a moment's notice.

Yeah as we all know America is very famous for wanting to send people into wars it has nothing to do with. Don’t bring up gay shit like Vietnam or Korea. That was dumb. I’m talking about wars we have no involvement with. WWI and WWII we were strictly isolationist until we were attacked. Imagine trying to tell US citizens they have to go to Ukraine / Israel. Not even 25% of them would do it. Unless Russia blows up a Mcdonalds we couldn’t give a fuck what happens to these people.

IF WWIII happens it will not occur like everyone thinks where suddenly everyone starts declaring war. It will be just like WWI and WWII. The Euro countries will freak out and start raping each other. America won’t intervene except by selling arms or funneling support in a way that “doesn’t take a side”. We’ll get attacked or hit with propaganda and then we’ll join. But this is assuming WW3 will even happen which i’m pessimistic on. I’d like to believe we live in a different world now where even the most insane of leaders know the adage that WW3 is fought with nukes and WW4 is fought with sticks.
