That's why the "Face Off" episode had that cornball special effect with Gus looking like a zombie, it was a tip of the that from "Walking Dead" to "Breaking Bad." (The folks from "The Walking Dead" contributed that special effect.)
The writers openly admitted that they had no idea what Walt was going to do with the machine gun in the final season, they just threw it in there because "it looked cool" and then they'd written themselves into a box because they had no explanation for why he bought it in the first place.
I love the show, but the writers came from "The X-Files" and it shows, they don't understand how to do stories that are longer than a week or two at a time.
