WWAWD Masters of Horror series? I think the horror genre plays well with the one-offs. Not everything needs to be a full-blown "movie"

Haven't seen it since it aired but remember being disappointed with a lot of it. I remember liking Jenifer and Deer Woman.

At this point I feel like I kind of has watched the horror movies that are worth watching. I don't know, I just with there was more to see, I can't remember the last time I was recommended something I hadn't seen. And pretty much all new horror movies are awful so there are never any new great surprises.

Anyway, StageFright had a great score.

Haven't seen it in a while but I remember White of the Eye (1987) being a decent more obscure horror. Unfortunately the trailer kind of spoils it.

Against better judgement I watched Exorcist: The Beginning. Perfect example of how a studios have no idea what the fuck they're doing half of the time. Didn't realize that Dominion was the original version of this film and the studio hated it so much they just hired another director and reshot the entire thing with the same cast. It reminds me of so many bad horror movies of the 2000's. Lame jump scares, over reliance on gore, and horrible CGI/green screen. They also had no idea what made the original Exorcist work. I'm going to watch Dominion later today, but there is no way it could be worse than this.

Have you seen Funny Games? The Austrian original from 1997, not the American remake with Tim Roth and Naomi Watts

I fucking hated it. I saw the american one. If its shot for shot, why is the first one better?

Sick movie. Not good. Nice 30 minute scene of a man crying over his dead child, stupid.

It is a fucking horrible, ugly film. There were a couple of parts that I found literally unwatchable, both involving the boy's death.

I think the actors, especially "Peter and Paul" are just a lot better in the original, that's all. Side note - almost all the main cast in the Austrian original: the husband, the wife (who were also married irl) and the chubby killer all died young, adding to a "cursed movie" feel.

October 3: Free day - NOICTSY from Sept 31 will fill in for this slot. I was too fawkin’ busy

October 4: The Gate (1980s)

Never saw this as a kid so I have no emotional attachment to it. I’ve watched it in bits and pieces over the years which may have hampered my enjoyment as I was a little bored. I think I’m going to show this one to my son and see how he reacts.

October 5: Trick R Treat (2008)

I consider this a modern Halloween staple and I watch it every single year. It’s not “great” but it IS great for a straight to DVD movie and it lends it a bit of an underappreciated gem vibe.

October 6: Halloween II

Watched this with my son. He loved that it just picks right up at the end of the first one. I greatly enjoy this movie. I love the sexy black nurse that speaks perfect English. I love all these 80s nurses. It must have been so sick to be a Doctor back then and just run through them all when they knew their place and wouldn’t make a tiktok about you when you bang the next one.

Watched Dominion last night. It's a better movie than Exorcist The Beginning, but still not very good. Schraders version is much better directed and he understands the thesis of the original Exorcist than Harlin did. More of a slow burn drama with some horror elements compared to being a generic horror film like the other one was. It's still just not a well written film with a not very compelling story and still has all the terrible CGI that Beginning has. I didn't hate it, but I wouldn't ever watch it again or recommend it to anyone. I get why the studio didn't like it since it's not audiences would've come to expect from an Exorcist film, but I think its funny how Harlin's version is so much worse and still flopped.

I watched some horror western last night called Kill Or Be Killed. I might just be retarded but I somehow enjoyed it despite the pretty bad acting and the fact that the entire "horror" part of the movie makes no sense, nothing gets explained and nothing ties together in the end. It's a straight up bad movie in those regards, but I didn't hate it despite the whole thing being a waste of time because it doesn't make sense. It could've just been a decent western.

I also watched some movie called Jug Face the other night. It was in the horror section of Tubi but it was less horror and more just some supernatural shit. I liked it. Again, not great, but I liked it. Einhorn's in it.

This doc rules. Worth a watch if you've got an afternoon to kill. Much better than the Chucky doc that came out this year
