As for the other things you list, they haven’t proven that any of them alter brain chemistry but it is possible so it is being studied. Especially the chemicals in Motrin and other non aspirin medicines.

The iPad one is the big one. Kids who live on the iPad develop all the symptoms of autism despite not having it. Parents will spend time and money hiring therapists and going to therapy only to hand the kid an iPad and sit him in the corner afterwards. Take away the electronics and go to the park every day and those symptoms go away. Kids have mushy little brains, they need regular human activity to develop.

How are you disambiguating between increased diagnosis and the rates rising?

I’m not. At one time their rate of diagnosis was zero. Then they learned about early intervention and therapy and the rate went up. Recently all adhd diagnoses were added to autism diagnoses and the numbers shot up again. It’s a relatively new field with a wide range of symptoms and degrees of issues. Causes are being studied and things like iPads have been found to cause similar behavior among non autistic kids so the numbers fluctuate more due to categorizing and diagnosis than creating a generation of kids different from previous generations.
