Scratchcard people are the worst. The actual UK lottery has a machine that you do seperately from the checkout and just hand it in, takes 2 minutes. There's about 30 options for scratchcards and people will stand there deliberating which one is going to make them rich and buy like 20 anyway. I've literally never heard of or even seen a story about someone winning more than a tenner on them.
Seeing grown men who are capable of getting through life without walking into traffic etc. be deadly serious about the "logic" of slowly and methodically picking their numbers as though there is a science to it. This is how many a boomer spends their reverse mortgage money instead of leaving it to their children.
Do what I do. Buy the most expensive scratch off tickets, get shitfaced and then do a full-on forensic accounting of how you will spend the top prize in an Excel document. That's normal behavior, right?

The worst is when they use self checkout too. 50+ items and they have no consideration for those behind them so they just slowly scan each one, then get out their hard cash to slide into the machine bill by bill.
I usually have 15-20 items during a single shop since its usually just miscellaneous ingredients for whatever dishes we are planning to cook the next few nights and I blast through them at the self checkout so that the line can keep moving

My wife's fat, unemployed, 50 year old, closeted homosexual brother is full on addicted to scratchers. He'll buy shit loads of them with his elderly mother's money and win back maybe 1/4 of what he spent. It's not just lotto with this guy, either - the guy loves slot machines. My wife and I took him to a casino for his birthday one year and loaded him up with like $100. At one point in the night he hits for like $2k on one of the machines. My wife and I are like "Nice! You should cash that out!" Instead we watched a fucking broke ass bum of an adult crank away ALL OF THAT MONEY on the same machine because he was convinced it was gonna hit again. Let me really spell this out: we watched this broke, fucking unemployed adult who is a constant financial drain on his family piss away $2k in like 5 minutes. I couldn't fucking believe what I saw. I've never had a lower opinion of that piece of shit than I did in that moment.
