WWAWD Hybrid Work

Which way?! Medium or well done?
The shit about teaching new staff is fucking bullshit.

If you want to train people to a high standard, you give them in depth guides and manuals and test environment software systems etc.

Again, it’s only boomers who think otherwise.
Do you think we should shut down schools and universities, too, and just make everything remote?

I get you're salty about going back to the office, but surely you can admit there are some benefits to in-person? Whether or not they outweigh the negatives is usually team specific.

People who insist on having meetings or calling people “because I’m old school and want to talk to someone” cause way more waste and hassle than people who will slack off remotely.

The amount of fucking meetings and phone calls I have to sit through when they could achieve the same with one email or a brief teams IM is unreal.

But yes, it’s good to be in person sometimes. I had monthly meetings they had to attend in person, it was mostly socialising but it served a purpose.

By the way, when I didn’t impose it on anybody, people were free to attend in person any time they wanted to, and they would when they felt it was necessary. Things have a way of working out if you trust people and let them balance their work schedules beyond slaving at a desk all the time, it wasn’t perfect of course but neither is being in an office every day.

Meaningless meetings is how so many people keep jobs they shouldn’t have. Especially in places where people in upper management seem to fail upwards. Especially all the jobs related to implementing diversity and inclusion. At one of my previous departments you would see people be made managers who then didn’t actually manage anyone. Working in corporate America it’s amazing how many people in upper management do NOTHING. Even where you got Presidents, VP’s, MD’s, Associates, etc that have NO IDEA what their department they’re responsible even does for the company.

I’ve worked in Finance for a global company for close to a decade and my first department was in auto finance. Dealerships all over the country would use us for auto loans and we also had exclusive partnerships with 5 major auto brands to be their brand name financial group. We got some president who had fucked up somewhere else in the company in credit cards but was high up and there for years so they couldn’t get rid of him. Within a year he pissed off two of our major auto brand partnerships and actually told everyone we dont need to have competing % rates with other major banks because auto customers will pay more for a higher APR with us for out “great service”. Of course that didn’t go well as customers don’t go with a higher interest rate because they can pay their bill online and he ended up losing tons of business for the bank. So he got moved to Mortgage banking because they figured “there’s no way he can fuck that up”

TL;DR you could cut so much of the fat of upper management from major companies and they would run just the same and not skip a beat.

My impression is really high-ups get shit canned a lot easier. you'll come into work one day and a member of the highest level of management will just be gone

They do but there’s the BS of office politics as well, I had a VP get fired recently because they realized he doesn’t do anything and isn’t needed. But not every department is that way.

The people who built these companies aren’t around anymore, the people who own them want to make quick money and bail. That’s why they do this shit, some bullshit idea that destroys everything in 10 years puts the stock up for the next year, and people cash out and don’t give a fuck what happens next.

High ups get moved around with sweetheart deals.

Middle management get tossed out.
That’s what I meant with my long post. One department I worked in the president of our location worked in NY and we worked at a different location which was run by a VP he never met and was given on him as a VP after getting tossed from some other department (she had gotten high up in the company because she was married to someone important)

She was possibly the worst VP I’ve ever worked with, just a complete bitch that pissed everyone off. Eventually the head our of department moved to where we were located and he got to see in person how shitty she was and knew she had to go but he couldn’t fire her due to her connections. Eventually he was able to dump her on another department. He called a meeting for the whole department in another building and while all the employees got up to walk over he called her in his office and handed her a box and told her to pack her shit and get out before the staff comes back from the meeting. We got back and he told us she’s gone and went elsewhere and we never saw her again.

I am literally shaking in tears at the treatment that brutal ogre of a man put that woman through just for being a woman. I hope she sued and won millions and millions of dollars. This. Is. Not. Okay.

It was a boss move, I didn’t know the guy well but from that day I liked him. He didn’t even let her say goodbye - just “ok - she’s gone and we’ll replace her shortly.” And nobody was upset to see her go. Later I found out he would purposely call meetings with all the other managers and heads of the department and not invite her.

She actually tried to give me a warning that she was going to fire me because I “looked mean” and she didn’t like that. Mind you she had resting bitch face and was a complete cunt. I pressed her on her BS and threatened to go to HR because you can’t fire someone because you think they look “mean” which isn’t a crime or violation of any rules.

Women are smart, and brave. They’re funny and brave. Get over it.

Mrs RoxburyRick loves da hybrid work. She actually moved on from Amazon last year because there were rumors they were gonna stop letting her do it, and has a much better job now. I do get a little pissed coming home to a messy house when she's home and could pick up tho
